In view of decreasing COVID-19 cases across Bihar, the government has reopened the schools on August 16, 2021 for the students of Classes 1 to 8 in the state.

Schools are reopening with just 50 percent capacity in the classrooms, and the school authorities have ensured the implementation of COVID norms that includes wearing masks, following social distancing, and sanitizing hands.

“It is mandatory for students to wear masks, maintain hand hygiene and follow physical distance,” a school teacher in Bihar said.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh on August 16, 2021 also witnessed the reopening of schools for higher and intermediate classes. Along with this, the admissions to Junior High School would also begin from the aforementioned date.

Along with Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh schools reopened for intermediate class or class 12. The decision was taken after a meeting with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Attendance has not been made compulsory yet and online classes would continue alongside for students who do not wish to come for physical classes.

It is to be noted that these states are not the first ones to commence the school reopening. After witnessing a drop in infections and an increase in inoculation numbers, many states across the country have resumed the offline classes in a phased manner.
