India administers 88.13 lakh COVID vaccines, highest ever in single day

India on August 17, 2021 achieved a milestone, as the country administered the highest vaccination ever in a single day with a total of 88, 13, 919 people being inoculated in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

Under the nationwide vaccination drive 55, 47, 30, 609 vaccine doses have been administered so far. A total of 88, 13, 919 vaccine doses have been administered in the last 24 hours, which is the highest vaccination ever achieved in a single day in the country.

The Indian Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on August 17, 2021 congratulated Indians and said while tweeting that this is the highest single-day record of COVID-19 vaccination in the country.

“88 Lakhs. India achieves the highest single-day record in COVID19 vaccine doses. Yesterday will go down in the history of the world’s Largest Vaccine Drive. Congratulations,” the Health Minister tweeted.

On the 213th day of the nationwide vaccination drive on August 16, 2021, 70.76 lakh beneficiaries received their first dose and 17.37 lakh people were given their second shot.

The Health Minister said that it took India 85 days to touch the figures of 10 crores. The country then took 45 days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach 30 crores.

India took another 24 days to reach the 40 crore mark and 20 more days to cross 50 crore inoculations.

As of now, the most populous state, Uttar Pradesh has administered the maximum number of doses under the nationwide vaccination drive. The state has vaccinated 5, 98, 06, 936 people so far, followed by Maharashtra (5, 00, 55, 493) and Gujarat (4, 07, 66, 486).
