Indian Health Minister Manuskh Mandaviya has informed that a total of 96 countries have recognized Covishield and Coaxin.

Mandaviya said that reflecting worldwide acceptance of India’s vaccines and our vaccination process, 96 countries have agreed to mutual acceptance of vaccine certificates.

“WHO has included eight vaccines in the EUL (emergency use list) so far. We are happy that two out of eight vaccines are Indian vaccines-Covaxin and Covishield,” he added.

Covaxin and Covishield were approved by the Drugs Controller General of India in January 2021 for their rollout across India.

The vaccines' rollout was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16, 2021.

Earlier many people were hesitant to take the vaccines due to fear of their side effects and lack of awareness.

Since the second wave of COVID and due to massive awareness led by government and other agencies, the mega vaccination process has picked up.

As on November 9, 2021, over 109 crore doses of vaccines have been administered across India. The highest doses-13 crore-have been administered alone in Uttar Pradesh.
