Amid the rise in the number of new infections in the country, the Union Health Minister, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has urged all eligible people to get their precautionary dose to protect themselves from COVID19 infections.

Speaking to the media on January 18, 2022, Dr Mandaviya said that over 50 lakh healthcare workers, frontline workers and senior citizens aged 60 years in the country have already received a precautionary dose of vaccine.

“I request all those who are eligible to get their precaution dose at the earliest,” he added.

The mega program of administering precautionary doses for healthcare and frontline workers and senior citizens commenced on January 10, 2022.

The COVID19 vaccination program for children from 15 to 18 years of age had also begun on January 3, 2022.

It may be noted that vaccination is said to be one of the major factors of preventing hospitalisation and deaths amid the spread of infections by the Omicron variant of Coronavirus.

As of January 18, 2022, over 50 lakh eligible people have got their precautionary dose in India.
