Online Appointments with Doctors, Specialists Commence at AIIMS, Raipur

Ravish Mishra

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Hospital in Raipur has commenced online booking of appointments for outpatients who wish to consult doctors and specialists.

Appointments can be booked at http://www.aiimsraipur.edu.in.

This makes the Raipur AIIMS, one among the six new AIIMS opened in India, the first to commence online booking of appointments for patients.

This will save the patients the trouble of coming to the hospital and standing in long queues to get an appointment with a doctor. It will also decrease the crowding at the hospital.

The Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic and Dietary Departments, however, are yet to commence online booking of appointments.

The patients booking appointments get an SMS confirmation on their mobile telephone numbers, which they would have to get with them for verification and registration prior to the appointment. Patients can take a printout of their appointment confirmation.

Patients seeking online appointments would have to reach the OPD between 8.30 and 10.00am for registration. If they fail to turn up, online booking facility for appointments will be blocked on their telephone number for six months. Appointments can be fixed 30 days in advance and can also be canelled well in advance.

One wonders why the SMS confirmation should not suffice and why the bureaucratic process of registration in the morning, punishment if the patient fails to turn up, etc. has also been introduced. Clearly, digital India is coming with all its empowerment of the citizens of India, but the babudom is not letting go of its nuisance value.

In any case, a good beginning needs to be appreciated.
