Hundreds protest against doctors' strike in Safdarjung hospital

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI:
Hundreds of people staged a protest against the ongoing strike by doctors in Delhi's Safdarjung hospital and the suspension of police constable Birender in connection with last week's assault on a doctor working in the Emergency.

The protesters from civil society and various residents' associations contended that the constable was not responsible for the assault and his suspension should be revoked immediately.

A memorandum was handed over to Safdarjung Hospital authorities and to the Deputy Commissioner of  Delhi Police's South District.

One of the protesters told DTMT, “There should be a law to ban doctors' strikes, just as police personnel cannot go on strike.”

He said, “Many patients suffered due to the strike and two of them lost their lives.”

Earlier last week, a police constable in the Safdarjung Hospital was suspended by the DCP after doctors went on strike.

“Our demands include FIR against hospital bouncers, early revocation of suspension of police constable and complete ban on doctors strike in hospitals,”,” said Hari Ram from Rohini, Delhi.
