A three day workshop on eye care was held in Hyderabad, organized by LV Prasad Eye Institute in collaboration with MIT-India, to help young engineering students design innovate eye care instruments and to understand visual disability.

Mr Raghu Gullapalli, Executive Director, Emerging Technologies and Business Development, said that the LVPEI Center has been home to many innovations in the areas of eye care delivery, biology of the eye, surgical techniques, eye banking and children's eye health.

Mr Gullapalli added that the workshop provided a platform for young minds to see their innovations from prototype to product.

Quality healthcare is still inaccessible in low resource areas. These innovations are bridging the gaps between healthcare centers and low resource areas through self-contained and low-cost alternatives.

Mr Gullapalli said research and education play a vital role in the advancement of medicine. These innovations enhance the medical education experience and enable global standardization of clinical research, allowing for speedy translation.
