A 10-year-old girl from Uganda has shown improvement after being treated with cell based therapy for her cerebral palsy. The  cell based therapy was given by Dr Pradeep Mahajan, Regenerative Medicine Researcher, Mumbai.

Dr Mahajan has said that with cell based therapy Rayneesha’s muscle strength and gait improved. Her seizures were under control and dose of her anti-epileptic medicines reduced. Rayneesha’s social skills also developed considerably.

Dr Mahajan added that Rayneesha was advised holistic treatment protocol of cell based and oxygen therapy along with intensive neuro rehabilitation.

During initial days at and after birth, Rayneesha did not report any complications or any significant health issue. However, it was later informed to the parents that the child did not cry after birth.

At around 4-5 months of age, her parents noticed some delay in developmental milestones. The child would not respond well to sounds and colors and had not begun to develop self-neck support.

Also, she would drool continuously. Over time, her parents noticed that she did not sit up or crawl, but she would sit up with support. Doctors at her hometown diagnosed her with cerebral palsy and advised physiotherapy rehabilitation.

Rayneesha gradually started to crawl and walk, although the milestones were delayed and her gait was not erect, her cognitive abilities and social skills were underdeveloped.

Rayneesha would get aggressive at times and would be quiet at other times. Her parents researched for newer treatment modalities as they did not notice improvement with the rehabilitation she was undergoing. Moreover, she also had seizures for which she was advised life-long anti-epileptic medications.
