Hindu Rao Hospital: Resident doctors threaten mass suicide

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI:
Resident doctors working at North Delhi Municipal Corporation run hospital - Hindu Rao Hospital, have threatened to commit mass suicide on May 17, 2019, if their demand for early payment of three months due salaries is not met by then.

The warning came after representatives of the Resident Doctors Association failed to meet the hospital medical superintendent and North MCD officials as they had already left their rooms due to strike.

"If the delay in disbursement of salaries continues, we will be forced to commit mass suicide and lock up all hospital rooms including MS office,” RDA president Dr Rahul Choudhary said.

Dr Choudhary told DTMT, “It becomes very difficult for us to sustain and feed our families. Now, we have no option but to take such steps.”

Dr Chaudhary also disclosed that some RDA members will carry kerosene oil and petrol for this drastic step at the hospital on May 17, 2019.

As the resident doctors stayed away from work and gheraoed the MS office, all services at the North MCD run hospital were affected on May 16, 2019. Hundreds of patients and their family members were seen running from one ward to another in search of doctors for treatment of those admitted in the hospital.
