NEW DELHI : The Delhi government has asked all its agencies and departments to convert the fight against dengue into a mass movement from Sunday onward to ensure that mosquitoes, which spread Dengue and Chikungunya, do not breed in the city.

Health Minister Satyendar Jain held a meeting of government departments, civic agencies, Delhi Police, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, medical superintendents of state-owned hospitals and DDA among others," a press statement issued by the Delhi Government said.

Awareness for prevention of vector born diseases must begin from the top and this mega-awareness campaign will be led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself, the statement said.

Jain told the officers, "Checking our own houses and surroundings to ensure there are no sources of clean stagnant water in which Aedes Mosquitoes can breed does not take more than 10 minutes every Sunday."

The health minister appealed to the officers in the meeting to motivate their neighbours also for participating in this campaign.

He added, "If we all remove sources of dengue and chikungunya from our homes and neighbourhood then we are safe, let us all start with ourselves."
