NEW DELHI:
A “plogging drive” for generating greater awareness to minimize the use of single use plastic among citizens has been launched by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

The teams participating in the drive were flagged off by Secretary, NDMC, Rashmi Singh at Lodhi Gardens.

Ms Singh said that it is not only our moral duty but has become an utmost responsibility to make the Capital City free from single-use-plastic, which has posed a great threat to the ecological balance and human beings, as well.

She said, “Every citizen should pledge towards the drive ushered by NDMC to make Lutyens Delhi cleaner and minimize single use plastic."

She further appealed to the citizens to follow the activity of “plogging” and help the NDMC in spreading the same in the society.

The “plogging drive”, as explained by NDMC Secretary Rashmi Singh, is in response to the call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for greater civic participation and sensitization of people from all walks of life, urging for personal commitments from various segments of society as a part of this movement so that it becomes their daily habit to be more environmentally conscious and active.

The campaign will run upto October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Ms. Singh, after administrating the ‘Swachhta Pledge’ to the participants present in the drive, stressed the need to make this activity a part of their routine.

Shopkeepers/ MTA’s at Mini Market, Laxmi Bai Nagar, Babu Market at Sarojini Nagar and Kali Bari Marg joined the movement.
