Resident doctors and students of Delhi-AIIMS took out a peaceful march to spread awareness about air pollution in Delhi and to support Climate Justice Movement,  a movement of many movements—a continuously growing and changing distributed transnational network of persons and groups acting, each in their own way, to achieve their vision of a scientifically sound and socially just response to global warming and climate change.

The doctors said that they usually protest for their own rights and problems. “Being healthcare professionals in Delhi, one of the most polluted cities in the world, we medicos, MBBS, MD, Msc, PhD students and research staff, realize that we need to raise our voice against climate change and pollution not only for ourselves but more importantly, for the patients as well,” said the doctors.

Dr Rajeev Ranjan, Member-RDA, Delhi-AIIMS, said, “Air pollution and climate change matters not only to doctors but to everybody as diseases will increase causing a burden on the entire health system."

“Climate change will result in severe medical emergencies, in magnitude that have never been dealt before. Respect Mother Nature and she will bless with you with healthy life,” added Dr Ranjan.

Air pollution is the leading risk factor for death in India. Air pollution killed around 12 lakh individuals in India in 2017. The World Health Organization estimates that 9 out of 10 people worldwide breath air which is unsafe.
