Healthcare services have come to grinding halt at state-run Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital in Delhi as all the resident doctors at the hospital went on a flash strike in the wake of an assault on a junior resident in the emergency on November 18, 2019.

The striking doctors have shut down OPDs and emergency services.

Dr Nitin, Senior Resident from Department of Ear, Nose and Throat, told DTMT that a person, apparently in an intoxicated condition, came to the emergency for treatment on November 18, 2019.

"He was accompanied by four to five persons who were also under the influence of alcohol. The person, who  was in a intoxicated state, collapsed. This did not go down well with his friends. They assaulted the on duty doctor in the emergency. They punched him and threatened him with dire consequences once he comes out of the hospital. They, then, ran away, " added Dr Nitin.

He claimed that the doctor was assaulted due to poor security arrangements. "We have shut down the OPDs and emergency services. Only critical patients are being seen by consultants in the emergency. We will discuss the matter with the hospital MS and decide the future course of action," explained Dr Nitin.
