People seem to be still defiant despite strict restrictions imposed by the government to contain coronavirus. Hundreds of people gathered in the morning of March 25, 2020, at the Sabzi-Mandi in Daryaganj, Delhi.
People were found to be purchasing vegetables in the vegetable market in large numbers.
They were not wearing masks and taking any preventive measures to protect themselves from the virus. They were not following any advice by doctors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on social distancing.
Dr Maruti Singh, Senior Gyenecologist, Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, Daryaganj, told DTMT that this vegetable market has been continuing for days.
The market lacks hygiene and people do not take the virus seriously that has killed nine and infected nearly 600 in India.
'There is a big threat of the virus spread in the area as vegetable venders and buyers were flocking in the morning in the market. There was a crowd. People were gathering in groups irrespective of the fact that virus can transmit through gathering. This is happening daily," added Dr Singh.
