Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has ordered the replacement of the medical superintendent of Jai Prakash Narayan Trauma Center (JPNTC) of Delhi-AIIMS where a journalist with Covid had died by suicide.

The health minister’s order came after reviewing the report of a committee which was constituted by the minister to probe the journalist’s death.

The minister has said that there was no malafide in the treatment of Mr Sisodiya, the Hindi print media journalist who jumped from the fourth floor of the trauma building and died. The information of replacing the head of JPNTC was shared by the minister on his Twitter handle.

Dr Vardhan tweeted on July 10, 2020, “Ordered immediate replacement of medical superintendent of AIIMS trauma Centre. On July 6, a Covid positive journalist patient Shri Tarun Sisodiya had jumped from the 4th floor and died.”

Dr Vardhan further said that he has directed that an expert committee be constituted to suggest suitable changes in administration for AIIMS as well as JPNTC. "The report along with its recommendations shall be submitted before me by July 27, 2020,” he added.

“The four-member inquiry committee constituted to examine the suicide of Sisodiya, had submitted its report today. The committee did not find any malafide intent in the death of Mr Sisodiya. It also did not find any lapses in the treatment protocol of Covid19," he said.
