SMS doctors staging protest

Jaipur docs hold black ribbon protest, seek Covid-19 facilities

 BS RAWAT
Physicians, under the banner of Jaipur Association of Resident Doctors, sported black armbands on Saturday in protest against the authorities for not providing them facilities during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Their demands include a separate cottage room, 50 % ICU beds in IDH, sufficient staff to treat infected residents, separate sample collection counters, and quarantine facility.

Nearly 60 resident doctors staged the protest after several of their colleagues contracted the virus inside the hospital.

“In the past 6 months, we have been seeing that every day either a nurse or a healthcare worker at SMS Hospital, Jaipur, is testing positive for coronavirus. The government should provide us Covid-19 treatment facility where we can easily get tested and get ICU beds,” said a doctor, who identified himself as a member of the association.

In a letter to SMS Medical College, Jaipur, the resident doctors have threatened to go on an indefinite strike, including withdrawal of services at emergency departments, if their demands are not met soon.
