The Assam government has made the RT-PCR test, which is used to diagnose Covid-19, mandatory for entering the state.

It may be noted that recently, Assam has reported a surge in Covid cases and deaths. Anyone who had Covid previously and recovered from it will not be tested. The decision of RT-PCR has been taken as prevention to contain the further spike of the virus in the state.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the media that people coming to Assam will undergo RT-PCR tests and will be given results within 24 hours. So, quarantine is reduced to 24 hours from 10 days. Anyone who has recovered from Covid will not be required to undergo quarantine or testing on arrival, added Sarma.

Assam has reported 135144 corona virus cases and 608 deaths. The number of active cases of the virus has reached 29830.
