Odd-even formula for vehicles will be implemented in Delhi only if all preventive measures to curb air pollution do not work in Delhi in the coming days. This was hinted at by Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on October 19, 2020.

“We have implemented the odd-even scheme many times in Delhi. It would be our last resort and we will think about its implementation if the rest of the methods to curb air pollution fail,” added Rai in a press conference.

It may be noted that the level of air pollution has increased in recent days due to which the Delhi government is taking all preventive measures including ban on waste-burning, dust controlling and stubble burning in the city.

However, farmers in some instances are found to burn stubble in nearby UP, Haryana and Punjab. According to Delhi government, stubble burning is one of the biggest contributors to air pollution in the national capital.B

But the central government does not consider it as the biggest cause of rising air pollution levels due to which both centre and Delhi government are at loggerheads on handling this serious health issue in the city.
