Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has been administered a trial dose of Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin at a hospital in Ambala, Haryana. The minister had offered to be the first volunteer for the third phase trial of Covaxin which started in the state on November 20, 2020.

Covaxin is India's indigenous Covid-19 vaccine by Bharat Biotech, developed in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology (NIV). The indigenous, inactivated vaccine is developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech's BSL-3 (Bio-Safety Level 3) high containment facility.

The third phase trial of Covaxin is said to be the largest human trial to be conducted with about 26,000 participants. The company has said that Covaxin has shown promising safety and immunogenicity data in trials done during phase one and phase two.
