All districts now have PM Janaushadhi stores

Pradhan Mantri Janaushadhi stores, which provide affordable generic medicines, have been set up in all the districts of India. This has been informed by the Prime Minister's Office on the eve of Janaushadhi Diwas to be marked on March 7, 2021.
According to the PMO, this initiative of Janaushadhi stores, popularly known as Janaushadhi Kendra, endeavours to provide quality medicines at an affordable price. The number of stores under the scheme has grown to 7499, with all districts of the country covered, said the PMO.
“Sales in the financial year 2020-21 (up to 4th March 2021) led to total savings of approximately Rs. 3600 crore for common citizens, as these medicines are cheaper by 50% to 90% than the corresponding market rates,” said the PMO in a press release.
The PMO has informed that on the occasion of Janaushadhi Diwas Prime Minister Modi will dedicate to the nation the 7500th Janaushadhi Kendra at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) Shillong.
The PM will also interact with beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana and also give awards to stakeholders by recognizing their excellent work. Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Sadanand Gowda will also be present on the occasion.
In order to create more awareness about Janaushadhi, an entire week from March 1 to March 7 is being celebrated as ‘Janaushadhi Week’ across the nation, with the theme of “Jan Aushadhi - Seva bhi, Rozgar bhi”.
