Covid deaths remain high in India despite reduction in cases. As per the Indian Health Ministry data on May 17, 2021, a total of 281386 cases and 4106 deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.

The total number of active cases in the country is now 3516997. As per the data, the total number of cases of the virus so far is 24965493, out of which 21174076 patients have recovered. The corona death toll in India has further increased to 274390.
