At the launch of DRDO's 2-DG drug for Covid, India’s Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that this drug will reduce recovery time and oxygen dependency of Covid patients.

The drug was launched by India’s Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh and Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on May 17, 2021 in Delhi.

“With the support of DRDO and in the leadership of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, this drug may be our first indigenous research-based outcome to fight Covid. It will reduce recovery time and oxygen dependency,” said Dr Vardhan.

The minister emphasized that this drug is not just for India but will serve in the fight against Covid globally in the coming days.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, “We will not be at ease and will not be tired but will keep fighting and will win against Covid-19."

“Under the leadership of the PM, the issue of oxygen production has been resolved with collective effort. Now the medical issue is also not here much,” added Singh.

“The first and second batch of the drug will be used in a limited manner. It will be used in AIIMS, Armed Forces Hospitals, DRDO hospitals and other need which arises. From June onwards, it will be available to all hospitals,” informed Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO.
