India sees lowest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases in last 209 days

India witnessed the lowest single-day rise in coronavirus cases in the last 209 days as the country reported 18,346 new infections in the last 24 hours, the Indian Health Ministry informed on October 5, 2021.

The ministry also informed that the cumulative death toll rose to 4,49,260 after the country recorded 263 fatalities due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

According to the government data, the active caseload currently stands at 2,52,902 which is the lowest in 201 days, while the active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.75% which is again lowest since March 2020.

After the country witnessed 29,639 recoveries in the last 24 hours the overall recoveries increased to 3,31,50,886 while the recovery rate currently stands at 97.93% which is the highest since March 2020.

As per the official figures, the daily positivity rate is reported to be less than 3% for the last 36 days and currently stands at 1.61%, while the weekly positivity rate is recorded to be less than 3% for the last 102 days, and currently stands at 1.66%

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that 57,53,94,042 samples have been tested till October 4, 2021, of which 11,41,642 samples were tested yesterday.

Under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, 91,54,65,826 vaccine doses have been administered so far, while 72,51,419 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
