India reports 22,431 new COVID-19 cases, 19% higher than yesterday

India reported 22,431 new COVID-19 cases, 19% higher than yesterday that witnessed 18,833 new infections in the last 24 hours, the Indian Health Ministry informed on October 7, 2021.

The latest daily count of coronavirus pushed the overall cases to 3,38,94,312, while the cumulative death toll reached 4,49,856  after the country recorded 318 fatalities in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also informed that the active caseload currently stands at 2,44,198  which is the lowest in 204 days, while the active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.72% which is again lowest since March 2020.

According to the government data, after the country witnessed 24,602 recoveries in the last 24 hours the cumulative recoveries reached 3,32,00,258, while the recovery rate currently stands at 97.95% which is the highest since March 2020.

As per the official figures, the daily positivity rate is reported to be less than 3% for the last 38 days and currently stands at 1.57%, while the weekly positivity rate is recorded to be less than 3% for the last 104 days, and currently stands at 1.68%

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that 57,86,57,484 samples have been tested till October 6, 2021, of which 14,31,819 samples were tested yesterday.

Under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, 92,63,68,608 vaccine doses have been administered so far, while 43,09,525 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
