Assam: 3 more die of Japanese Encephalitis; toll reaches 16

With three more people succumbing to Japanese Encephalitis in the past 24 hours across Assam, the death toll to the deadly mosquito-borne disease in the state rose to 16 data released by the National Health Mission Assam show.

According to media reports, six more people were confirmed to be suffering from the disease in the state in the past 24 hours have taken the total number of people infected by the virus to 121 this year.

Meanwhile, the state Health Minister Kesab Mahanta has ordered that the district civil hospitals be turned into Japanese Encephalitis Designated Hospitals in the districts where there is no medical college during a high-level meeting of the health officials of the state, to assess the situation arising because of the outbreak, in the state capital Guwahati on July 13, 2022.

The minister further directed the health officials to make adequate arrangements immediately to ensure treatment facilities in these hospitals.
