Indian docs to take out cycle rally against NMC Bill

NEW DELHI: Doctors from all over India will converge on Delhi for a Doctors' Mahapanchayat in the national capital on March 25, 2018.

To protest against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) will participate in peaceful cycle rally from their respected branch offices across the country on March 11, 2018.

Speaking to DTMT, Hony. Secretary General of IMA Dr R N Tandon said, “With the aim to connect with society and consolidate the fraternity, cycle rallies are being organized all over India on March 11, 2018, through 1725 branches of the association.”

He said, “This will carry the message for common public on ill effects of various Acts imposed on medical fraternity, mainly focusing on NMC Bill.”

Dr Narender Saini, national coordinator, cycle yatra, informed, “Four cyclists from Kolkata, Kanyakumari, Mumbai and Amritsar will be reaching for Doctors’ Mahapanchayat in Delhi on March 25, 2018, carrying the message for Public Health First and creating awareness about NMC bill among public.”

Dr Saini said, “Basic theme of this rally is making people aware that NMC Bill is anti-people.”

In a statement IMA said that NMC Bill, brought by the present government is anti-poor, undemocratic and for big business houses running hospitals.

The Bill will make medical education extremely expensive and out of the reach of poor students, besides lowering the standards, the statement said.
