NEW DELHI: A large number of private doctors have taken out cycle rallies across the country to register their disapproval of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill 2017 in its present form.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), has called a "Doctors' Mahapanchayat" in Delhi on March 25, 2018. Over 25,000 doctors will take part in the ‘mahapanchayat’, said a statement of the IMA.

Thousands of doctors hit the streets and staged rallies in different cities across the country in protest against the bill.

In Delhi also, scores of doctors took out a cycle rally. They also presented a memorandum to members of Parliament.

The new bill provides that practitioners of alternative medicines will become eligible to prescribe modern medicines after undergoing a six-month bridge course. The government says that it will benefit people living in rural areas where MBBS doctors are hesitant to practice.
