Andhra Pradesh praised for breast, cervical cancer prevention effort

The Andhra Pradesh government has received praise from the central government for taking significant steps for the prevention of breast and cervical cancer among women of the state. A team union health ministry officials has said that the state government has taken steps for the early detection and treatment of breast and cervical cancer.

The team made these observations after visiting different places in the state. The team visited Krishna and Guntur districts and took stock of the services being offered by the authorities of the state government to prevent breast and cervical cancer.

The officials of the state health department told the visiting delegation they had been implementing a scheme called 'Mahila Master Health Check-up (MMHC)' programme for the convenience of the women for the last two years. "We told them that the women master health check-up scheme is being implemented at all our primary health centers, community health centers and Chandranna mobile health clinics of the state. We are conducting all kinds of tests for the women under the scheme. After the tests, we are also providing medicines to the patients for the treatment of their ailments including cancer prevention medicines," an official of the state government told DTMT.

The central government team was led by union health secretary Preeti Sudan, The team members also held a meeting with the officials of the state government during their visit. She inquired about the services being offered by the state government to its women. The team members visited the PHC located in China Kakani mandal of Guntur district and inspected the services being offered by the Chandranna mobile health clinic of the state.  The team also visited the Urban PHC located in Prakashnagar area of Vijayawada. The team of officials interacted with the patients and visitors of the PHC. The women patients of the hospital told the team members that they were getting all the healthcare services free of cost at the PHC. The officials of the state government said that the team had visited the state after getting positive feedback about the MMHC scheme.

According to highly placed sources, the central government is planning to implement the scheme in other states of the country. They add that the visit of the high level delegation of the central government was part of its plans to implement the scheme across the country.
