NEW DELHI: Rajasthan and Maharashtra already have bigger healthcare schemes than Ayushman Bharat.

India’s Health Ministry has dismissed news reports that Maharashtra and Rajasthan states are reluctant to join Ayushman Bharat saying that the reports are factually incorrect.

In a statement, the Ministry has said that both states fully support the Center’s biggest healthcare scheme Ayushman Bharat.

It further said that Rajasthan and Maharashtra have strong health insurance schemes which are currently operational and they already cover more people than are proposed to be covered under Ayushman Bharat.

"The two states are currently reviewing the financial and operational implications of the convergence with Ayushman Bharat to avoid any disruption of services and will join the scheme as soon as these issues are resolved,” the ministry said.

The Centre has managed to bring on board 25 states. West Bengal and Punjab, which were earlier reluctant over Ayushman Bharat, have also agreed in principle.
