NEW DELHI: India's ministries of AYUSH and Tribal Affairs have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote Medicinal and Aromatic Plants for livelihood development of tribal people in India.

AYUSH Minister Shripad Yesso Naik and Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram were present during the signing ceremony in New Delhi on August 9, 2018.

Both ministers expressed the hope that the MoU will be an important milestone in mainstreaming the tribal community by empowering the tribal gatherers engaged in collection and sale of minor forest produce which is a major source of livelihood of the people in tribal areas.

Under the MoU, National Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Board will identify potential medicinal plant species of the tribal areas. It will also support training and awareness programme on Good Agricultural Practices and Good Field Collection Practices.

The Board will also support skill upgradation and capacity building.
