Resident doctors working in Central and Delhi government health facilities in the national capital have threatened to strike work over non-payment of salary to academic doctors as per recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

The resident doctors on September 13, 2018, observed a one hour pen down strike. The doctors said that non-academic doctors in Delhi government hospitals are getting salary as per 7th CPC but academic doctors have been deprived of this facility.

Dr Sumedh Sandanshiv, President, FORDA-India, told DTMT, “We demand equal pay for academic and non-academic doctors. Discrimination in salary among doctors is not acceptable. Academic doctors are not getting salary as per recommendations of 7th CPC. It has been a year of pursuing this salary issue for doctors. But nothing has been done.”

Dr Sandanshiv said that there are around one thousands academic doctors who are not getting salary in accordance with recommendations of 7th CPC. This issue is only related to doctors working in Delhi government-run hospitals not to doctors working in central government-run hospitals. But strike will be observed in all hospitals.

“Today it was only a token strike and wake up call for the government. If our demand is not fulfilled we will strike work on September 20, 2018,” warned Dr Sandanshiv.
