Dr Bhatti assails Rishikesh-AIIMS bar on meetings of students

Resident doctors of Delhi-AIIMS have strongly criticized the recent order issued by Rishikesh-AIIMS that no social gathering of medical students can take place inside or outside the institution without prior permission from the dean.

The order, issued on September 15, 2018, says that disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate the order. The Delhi-AIIMS RDA has demanded the revocation of the order along with an apology from the director of Rishikesh-AIIMS.

Dr Harjit Singh Bhatti, President, RDA Delhi-AIIMS, told DTMT that such orders are issued only in emergency situations.

“If you don’t allow a gathering of students, the students would not be able to organize any academic program. They would not talk and even would not have a cup of tea together. They are doing this so that no student can speak of his or her rights. This is oppression, and suppresses the voice of students. This is not acceptable,” added Dr Bhatti.

Dr Bhatti pointed out that no RDA or students union exists in Rishikesh-AIIMS. Students are even afraid of speaking against this order. Ironically, this absurd order has been signed by the Dean-Students' Welfare.
