SHIVAMOGGA: Dr Syed Meer Mohmood, a junior resident doctor at the government-run McGann Hospital near Bengaluru has been suspended after he abused and misbehaved with a 12-year-old patient accompanied by her family.

The doctor refused to diagnose the girl and insisted that she was pregnant, her family alleged. When the girl’s family protested, the doctor abused them too.

A resident of Anand Rao Layout in Shivamogga, the girl had been suffering from fever and stomach pain. On September 17, her family took her to a private doctor who referred her to McGann Hospital suspecting that she was having dengue.

The patient was rushed to the emergency ward of McGann. Dr Mohmood was on duty. The patient’s grandfather said in his complaint to DC KA Dayananda, “When I approached Dr Mohmood, he abused my granddaughter, told me that she is pregnant and abused me too. The doctor didn’t diagnose my granddaughter but insisted that she was pregnant," he alleged.

The patient was kept in the hospital for a day and discharged without treatment.

The patient’s grandfather approached the Divisional Commissioner of the locality who forwarded the complaint to the authorities concerned. A week later, the director of the hospital Dr BG Lepakshi relieved Dr Mohmood of his duties.
