Just 48000 patients used Ayushman Bharat in 2 weeks

NEW DELHI: As many as 47, 091 patients benefited from the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the first two weeks since its launch, claimed Dr Vinod K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog.

Speaking at the fifth orientation at the Ganga Ram Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GRIPMER), Dr Paul said, “The total number of beneficiaries admitted in hospitals as of October 6, 2018, is 47,091. Up to 37,353 claims worth Rs 72.5 crore have been received.”

The NITI Aayog member claimed that 1.2 crore beneficiaries have already received the personalised letter by the prime minister since the launch of the scheme.

He informed that 35,364 hospitals have applied for empanelment, of which 14,074 have either been empaneled or are in the process of being added to the list.

“Four states -- Odisha, Telangana, Delhi and Kerala -- have chosen not to be part of the scheme, while a fifth, Punjab, joined the programme in the first week of October after initially holding out,” he added.

On the occasion, Prof S. Nundy, advisor GRIPMER & Emeritus consultant in the hospital, was awarded ‘Best Teacher Award 2017.’

Prof DS Rana, chairman of the hospital, stated that at present the hospital is one of the largest centres for DNB programme.

Besides DNB programmes, GRIPMER fellowships for a period of 6-12 months have been started in 16 superspecialities, he added.
