NEW DELHI: Delhi has got a standalone cancer daycare centre in Greater Kailash for people who need chemotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted cancer therapy, but do not wish to visit a hospital.

The Sarvodaya Hospital & Research Centre has located this centre at upscale Greater Kailash is headed by Dr Dinesh Pendharkar, one of the first practitioners in cancer chemotherapy in India, who is also the President of Indian Society of Oncology. It provides full nursing care and support to cancer patients in surrounding areas.

In the face of rising incidence of cancer, the hospital is planning two more daycare centres in other parts of Delhi.

“The need for such neighbourhood centers is being acutely felt because more than one lakh people in India are diagnosed with cancer each year. These patients need follow-ups for many years. As many as 70% of them need chemotherapy which can help cure, control or ease cancer warning signs,” said Dr. Dinesh Pendharkar, Director, Sarvodaya Cancer institute.

The centre offers advanced treatment procedures in a clinical environment outside of a hospital setting for people battling all types of cancer including breast cancer, head and neck cancer, lung cancer, gastro-intestinal cancer, blood cancer, and cervical cancer.
