Medanta gets Rs 90 lakh for researching Antimicrobial Resistance

Medanta hospital in Gurugram has been granted Rs 90 lakh by Pfizer Independent Grants for Learning and Change and The Joint Commission for researching appropriate antibiotic usage to improve patient outcomes.

The grant has been provided as part of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) for Asia-Pacific Region. Medanta will work on research into antimicrobial resistance with other international institutions including GHPL, Hoplins, MIER and Bioinworks.

JCI is responsible for administering the project activities. Pfizer IGLC is responsible for funding the project.

Dr. Naresh Trehan, CMD, Medanta, expressed his happiness on being a part of the ASP to excel towards improved patient outcomes.

Dr. Yatin Mehta, Chairman, Institute of Critical Care and Anaesthesiology, Medanta, said: “There is strong need to find a solution to antimicrobial resistance in a quick turn-around as it is one of the biggest challenges facing healthcare providers."

“We hope to invent best solutions to curb the rise of anti- microbial resistance,” added Dr Mehta.
