In the backdrop of a looming threat of a countrywide protest in support of a hike in fellowship, research scholars of Delhi-AIIMS have met India’s Science and Technology Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, and sought guidelines for hike in fellowship. The research scholars said that this will save them from come every time on roads to raise their demands.

The research scholars apprised Vardhan how authorities take the issue of hike in fellowship causally.

In a letter to Vardhan, the research scholars stated that the delay in increasing fellowship is leading to a sense of panic among the young researchers. They said that any further delay may lead to heightened resentment among researchers, leaving them with no option other than protests.

“We researchers always feel side-lined and ignored by competent authorities. We could not understand the reason behind this in-different attitude of the government towards the most competent and most hard working class of the country,” states the letter of Society of Young Scientists, Delhi-AIIMS.

The letter reads, “We are always left unheard and  made to come on the roads for our legitimate demands. We would like to have proper guidelines for annual increments in fellowship. We were promised a hike in fellowship in early 2018 but it has not been implemented yet.”
