In yet another incidence of violence in hospitals and against doctors, Hyderabad’s Global Hospital in Santosh Nagar was vandalized and ransacked by family members of a lady patient who died of H1N1 on December 23, 2018. The family has alleged that the patient died due to medical negligence by doctors. The mayhem in the hospital continued for three hours.

A video which has gone viral on social media shows youngsters, sons of the deceased, smashing windowpanes and the glass door at the entrance of the hospital. Those who ransacked the hospital include Mohiuddin Ali Khan, Mir Barkat Ali Khan and Mir Mustafa Ali Khan.

What is more inexplicable is that they are seen hitting and abusing the policemen who tried to pacify them and urge them not to vandalize the property of the hospital. Some frightened attendants were seen also urging them that they should be allowed to visit their patients admitted in the wards.

One son, furious over the death of his mother, is heard saying to a policeman that his mother has been killed by the hospital. “They have taken the life of my Amma. You should run away from here. If you want jail us,” says the son of the deceased patient.

The treating doctor said that the family members were not giving their consent for intubation of the patient. They were counseled regularly.

The doctor said, “It was a case of ILD on immunosuppression. She was admitted with H1N1 pneumonia and needed intubation since 48 hours back. Family was not giving consent for the same. So we kept her on NIV. The attendants of the patient were not willing to go to another centre”

The doctor added that family members of the patient were counseled. "Yesterday when she desaturated on NIV and her hemodynamics worsened, they gave the consent for intubation. Post intubation, after two her hemodynamics further worsened, she had a sudden cardiac arrest,” explained the doctor.

“The condition was clearly explained to them but they were never willing to accept the situation. They did not want to go to another hospital. What could we do?” asked the doctor.
