Amritsar: Doctors halt strike after attacker arrested

The resident doctors of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH), Amritsar, Punjab, have called off their strike for now after the arrest of the culprit who attacked surgery resident Dr Sachin Vardaan on December 29, 2018, over not being given VIP treatment.
Dr Manpreet Singh, Core Committee Member of RDA-Government Medical College, Amritsar, which is associated with GNDH, said that the culprit who attacked the doctor has been held by the police.
“This could be made possible only after the huge agitation by the doctors. Our demands have been accepted unconditionally by the additional chief secretary. After we received assurances, the strike has been called off temporarily with seven days of ultimatum to fulfill the demands. There will be indefinite strike from January 8, 2019, if our demands are not met by then,” warned Dr Singh.
