Some 50,28,156 ex-servicemen and their dependents have taken treatment at the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinics so far. ECHS is the scheme that provides allopathic healthcare to ex-servicemen and their dependents.

Presently, 427 ECHS Polyclinics are providing treatment to ex-servicemen and their dependents across India, informed Dr Subash Bhamre to Parliament on January 2, 2019.

On the lines of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) that provides treatment to ex-central government employees, ECHS was launched in 2003 to provide treatment to retired servicemen from department of defense. All Jan Aushadhi Kendras have also been empaneled in the ESCS scheme.
