Telangana: Urology residents demand extension of HOD's term

Junior resident doctors of the Urology Department of Osmania Medical College (OMC) have urged the Health Secretary, Telangana, to extend the services of Prof DVSRK Prasad, HOD, Department of Urology, OMC, for three years.
Dr Prasad will retire on February 28, 2019, and presently there is no professor of urology who can replace Dr Prasad, teach junior residents and provide treatment services to patients.
In a letter to the health secretary, the resident doctors have stated, “After Dr Prasad’s retirement, the services and teaching in urology department will be severely affected due to lack of any other professor. There is no eligible teaching associate professor to be able to be promoted as professor and fill the vacuum.”
The resident doctors have expressed worry that due to lack of a professor there is possibility of cancellation of MCH urology seats in OMC. Non-approval of recognition of the permitted seats and problems of legal viability of degree of students studying at present loom large. This can endanger the future of residents who are getting training under Dr Prasad.
The doctors said, “There will be no eligible teacher who can act as internal examiner in absence of Dr Prasad. His absence can hamper of renal transplantation services, training and teaching in government institutes of Telangana. This will also deteriorate the urological facilities in the government health facilities.”
