Research scholars announce nationwide protest on Jan 16

Feeling helpless at their demand for a hike in their stipend being ignored by the government, around 4000 research scholars, including those attached with Delhi-AIIMS, have announced that they will hold a protest at the HRD ministry in Delhi on January 16, 2019. This protest will be supported by research scholars in other institutes across India.
“There has been no positive response from the government authorities on hiking the stipend paid to research scholars. K Vijay Raghvan, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India, had assured that a communication on hiking stipend would reach the research scholars by December 31,2018. But this did not happen and we were left helpless. It is like cheating. So we have decided to protest nationwide on January 16, 2018,” said Mr Lal Chandra Vishwakarma, Chairman, Society of Young Scientists (SYS), Delhi-AIIMS.
Mr Vishwakarma said that for every stipend hike research scholars have to protest and come on the roads. The government always ignores research scholars , irrespective of their contribution towards the nation. It does not pay any heed to to their plight, unless a protest is done across India.
Mr Vishwkarma added that the research scholars are not able to pay required attention to their research because they are concerned about their financial instability. This is the major reason that Indian scientists prefer to work aboard.
“This brain drain can be prevented by provision of more financial security and facilities by the government to the scientists. This way, they can give more to the nation,” added Mr Vishwakarma.
