Doctors apprise Javadekar of NMC, CP bills' ill effects

Union Human Resource Development Minister Mr Prakash Javadekar has said that issues raised by doctors on the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill and the Consumer Protection (CP) Bill are genuine and assured that he will discuss the matter with the health ministry.
This information has been shared by Dr Harjit Singh Bhatti, Ex-RDA President, Delhi-AIIMS, who, along with senior members of the Indian Medical Association, met Mr Javadekar and apprised him of the ill effects of both bills on doctors and the people. The doctors were accompanied by Mr Binoy Viswam, Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala.
The meeting with the minister was part of a campaign started by IMA in course of which doctors meet union ministers and parliamentarians and tell them about the ill effects of NMC and CP bills.
“He (Javadekar) assured to convey our message with support to the health ministry. Though today is the last day of the Parliament session and if this bill will not pass then it will not be tabled till the next government takes over, we are still trying to create pressure to remove this bill from parliamentary discussion and draft a new bill with pro-people and pro-poor intentions,” said Dr Bhatti.
Dr Bhatti added “We want a strong regulatory authority which will improve quality of medical education and practice. NMC and CP will increase malpractice and corruption with direct involvement of the ministry. These bills are intended to convert medical profession into a business and medical students and patients into consumers or customers.”
