Telangana-AIIMS to have only 50 MBBS seats for first 3 years?

The Newly sanctioned All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIMMS) in Telangana will have only 50 MBBS seats in the upcoming academic year 2019-20. The AIIMS is being built at Bibinagar, almost 50 km from state capital Hyderabad.

The authorities of the state have informed that the reason for the less number of seats than the usual 100-200 MBBS seats for any new college, is the lack of adequate infrastructure at the institute. “The Institute is being built by the Center now and it will take the next 45 months to complete the entire process. Until then, the total number of seats would be 50 only,” an official of the health department of the state told this correspondent.

He also said that the 50 seat cap would be in force for a period of the next three years. “After the three year period, we will have a full fledged AIIMS in the state. We will then increase the total number of seats to 100,” he said.

The Central Government is spending Rs.1000 crore for the construction of this AIIMS.
