2 new AIIMS to be built in J&K, 1 in Gujarat

The Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of three new AIIMS, including two in Jammu and Kashmir and one in Rajkot, Gujarat. The three AIIMS have been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojna. These AIIMS are expected to provide services on the lines of Delhi-AIIMS.

The cabinet has also framed a timelime for completion of all three AIIMS. The AIIMS in Jammu’s Vijay Nagar is to be completed within four years while the AIIMS in Pulwama is to be completed within six years. The AIIMS in Rajkot will take 45 months for completion.  

All these AIIMS will have teaching blocks for medical and nursing courses, residential complex and 15-20 Super Speciality Departments, AYUSH block, auditorium, night shelter, guest house, hostels and residential facilities.

Each AIIMS will be equipped with 750 beds. Each AIIMS will add 100 MBBS seats and 60 B.Sc nursing seats. Each institute will provide treatment in OPDs to around 1500 patients per day.
