Safdarjung strike: DMA warns it will shut down all hospitals

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI: Extending support to the agitation by resident doctors of Safdarjung Hospital, the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) has threatened to paralyze the entire medical services Delhi if no real action is taken within 48 hrs against the accused who brutally attacked a resident doctor.

The association has demanded that the culprit be booked under the Delhi Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act 2008, passed by the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Dr. Ashwani Goyal, President, Delhi Medical Association said, “This is the third incident of violence against doctors in the last one week. DMA is seriously concerned about frequent episodes of assault on resident doctors in Safdarjung Hospital.”

He said, “The pending demand for the security of Resident Doctors has not been met. The culprit has not been arrested so far.”

Dr Goyal said, “The safety of the Resident Doctors is a cause of great concern and the administration and ministry are just keeping deaf and dumb on this issue. To make the medical profession accountable for all adverse events in patient care reveals a negative mindset of society. These events will adversely impact the delivery of effective medical care on a long term basis."

He requested the Health Minister of Delhi to ensure the safety of Resident Doctors in Delhi so that they can serve the society in a fearless manner.
