Marshals and guards deployed, Safdarjung docs end strike

With the deployment of 18 marshals in Delhi's Safdarjung hospital as an interim arrangement, filing of an FIR against those who attacked the doctors recently, and action against police personnel, the resident doctors ended their two-day strike late at night on January 14, 2019.
The marshals are deployed in the Super Specialty Block and New Emergency Block (NEB). A hundred security guards will also be deployed immediately in the NEB to save doctors from any violence.
This was decided in a meeting between senior officials of India’s health ministry and members of the Safdarjung Resident Doctors Association. The doctors have also been assured of deployment 30 more marshals for which the administration of Safdarjung hospital will submit a proposal.
This proposal will be considered by the health ministry by January 18, 2019. The resident doctors will be involved in the selection of additional marshals.
A committee will be formed within two weeks for assessing the requirement of security guards and marshals in NEB. This committee will also include two members of the RDA of Safdarjung Hospital.
It may be noted that around 1500 resident doctors had gone on indefinite strike on January 13, 2019, over the assault on a junior resident doctor by attendants of a patient. The doctor suffered a nose fracture in the assault. Emergency and OPDs services were shut down by the doctors.
