Swine flu threat: Delhi Government issues advisory to residents

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI:
Following the admission of many swine flu patients in various hospitals in Delhi, the Health Ministry of the Delhi Government has issued an advisory urging that residents having fever and sore throat must be confined at home.

Health officials have said that if any resident had fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose and difficulty in breathing, they should immediately approach a doctor or the nearest government hospital.

Other symptoms may include body ache, headache, fatigue, chills, diarrhea and vomiting and blood stained sputum, it added.

“Seasonal Influenza ( H1N1) is a self- limiting viral, airborne disease spread from person-to-person, through large droplets generated by the act of coughing and sneezing, indirect contact by touching a contaminated object or surface, and close contact including hand shaking, hugging and kissing" the advisory stated.

"Maintaining personal hygiene by frequently washing hands with soap and water, covering nose and mouth with disposable tissue or handkerchief while coughing or sneezing and taking a healthy diet and adequate rest,” are the steps the advisory recommended.

It also advised, “Stay more than one arm's length distance from persons sick with flu and drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food.”
