The resident doctors working in different medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh have expressed their pleasure over the state Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announcing that the government will not take bank guarantee from students pursuing MD and MS.

This was announced in a recent meeting of state chief minister, health minister, chief secretary and additional chief secretary with resident doctors of Himachal Pradesh.

The government has planned to enact a law in which a doctor, after completing his PG degree, has to work for two years in Himachal Pradesh.

Dr Ajay Jaryal, President, RDA-Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, has said that the decision of the government has given a lot of relief as many of the students were not able to pay the bank guarantee.

“The government has decided to enact compulsory two years service act in which a doctor has to work for two years in the state. This is much better. Now, each student will complete the PG without depositing any money. Doctors welcome this step. This has been conveyed to us verbally by chief minister and health minister,” added Dr Jaryal.

The resident doctors of Himachal Pradesh had been protesting and observing a pen down strike against the bank guarantee scheme of the state government in which a student had to deposit Rs 10 lakh as bank guarantee for completing his or her post graduate degree.

Earlier, the government had halved the bank guarantee from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. But this could not pacify the doctors who had been protesting against the bank guarantee.
