The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the proposed mass casual leave of medical technologists in PGI-Chandigarh. The workers had proposed the action for February 18, 2019, demanding pay grade of Rs 4600.

The Medical Technologists Association of PGI had threatened to strike work due to non-implementation of Prof Ashok Kumar Gupta panel report that grants them pay of Rs 4600 from January 1, 2006.

The high court has also issued notice to the central government directing it to reply in the matter by next hearing on February 21, 2019.

The administration of PGI had filed a writ petition against the proposed strike of medical technologists that could have halted the healthcare services and given inconvenience to patients coming for treatment.

Around 10000 patients visit PGI-Chandigarh everyday for medical care. The PGI administration contended that it had sent recommendations of the committee report but the central government had rejected the same.

The PGI said that that matter is under consideration and going on strike would be unjustified and against the public interest.
